Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Prague on Sunday for a two-day official visit aimed at deepening Czech-Ukrainian relations, according to Czech officials.
The Czech news agency CTK reported that Zelensky and his wife, Olena, landed in Prague late Sunday morning. Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky shared a photo of his handshake with Zelensky on X (formerly Twitter).
President Petr Pavel is expected to host the Ukrainian couple at Prague Castle later in the day. Pavel, a former NATO general, last welcomed Zelensky to the Czech capital in 2023.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Czech Republic—an EU and NATO member—has extended significant military and humanitarian support to Ukraine. This includes hosting over 500,000 Ukrainian refugees and supplying military gear such as tanks, armored vehicles, and helicopters.
The Czech government also supports the EU’s initiative, backed by NATO allies, to ramp up artillery ammunition shipments to Ukraine. This effort partially addresses the EU’s shortfall in delivering its pledged one million shells.
Prime Minister Petr Fiala and leaders of both chambers of the Czech parliament are scheduled to meet Zelensky on Monday.
