Google has raised the price of YouTube Premium in Nigeria by 54%, with the individual plan now costing N1,700, up from N1,100. The family plan experienced an even larger increase of over 64%, rising from N1,700 to N2,800.
In a recent email to Nigerian subscribers, YouTube explained: “To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to N1,700.00/month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue improving YouTube Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”
The new prices will take effect on each user’s next billing date.
While YouTube remains free with ads, YouTube Premium offers an ad-free experience, background play, and access to YouTube Music. As of February 2024, the platform had amassed 100 million paid subscribers across both YouTube Music and Premium.
This price hike isn’t limited to Nigeria; similar increases have also been implemented in South Africa.
