Equatorial Guinea’s Vice President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, has revealed that the United States is considering deporting African migrants to the West African nation. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mangue confirmed discussions with U.S. officials but noted that no agreement has been finalized.

Mangue stated he requested that the U.S. government, under President Donald Trump, cover housing and reintegration costs for any deportees. However, he emphasized that Equatorial Guinea would only accept migrants with clean criminal records, reviewing individuals on a case-by-case basis.

The proposed deportation plan has sparked concern in Malabo, where citizens fear the influx of potentially problematic migrants. Meanwhile, critics, including opposition-aligned outlet *Radio Macuto*, argue the move contradicts ongoing crackdowns on sub-Saharan Africans already living in Equatorial Guinea. The publication reports recent mass arrests and deportations of Nigerians, Cameroonians, and Chadians without due process.

In April, Malabo expelled over 200 Cameroonians, escalating tensions with Yaoundé. Equatorial Guinea defended the action, stating the migrants were undocumented.

This development aligns with the Trump administration’s broader agenda to deport undocumented migrants and seek third-country resettlements.
