In a sweeping crackdown on undocumented immigration, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 2,200 foreign nationals on Tuesday—marking the largest number of arrests in a single day in the agency’s history.

According to NBC News, the operation was launched under increased pressure from the administration of President Donald Trump, signaling a renewed effort to enforce immigration laws across the country.

Many of those apprehended have been placed into ICE’s Alternatives to Detention program, which uses electronic monitoring methods such as ankle bracelets, mobile apps, and geolocation tracking to supervise individuals not considered threats to public safety.

So far, it remains unclear whether any Nigerians are among those detained.

Diaspora Tales, a section of The Punch, reached out to immigration attorneys and members of the Nigerian community in the U.S. for comment, but no responses had been received at the time of filing this report.
