British authorities have arrested five men, including four Iranians, in connection with a suspected terrorist plot, according to a statement released by London’s Metropolitan Police on Sunday.

The arrests took place on Saturday across London, Swindon, and the Greater Manchester area. The men, aged between 29 and 46, were detained on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act, specifically targeting an undisclosed location. All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

Police noted that the nationality of one of the arrested individuals is still being verified.

“This is a fast-moving investigation,” said Dominic Murphy, head of the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command. “We are working closely with the site involved and keeping them informed. While inquiries are in the early stages, we’re pursuing multiple lines of investigation to determine motivation and assess any further risk to the public.”

In a separate operation the same day, Counter Terrorism Police arrested three more Iranian nationals in London. The men, aged 39, 44, and 55, were detained under the National Security Act, which targets threats such as espionage and foreign interference.

UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper thanked police for their efforts. “These events highlight the constant need to adapt our response to national security threats,” she said.

The government continues to coordinate with law enforcement and intelligence agencies to ensure the safety of the public.
