The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has urged member states to swiftly implement the resolutions reached at the 94th session of the Council, which concluded Friday night in Abuja.

Speaking at the session’s closing ceremony, Tuggar emphasized the importance of the adopted decisions in tackling the region’s economic and security issues. He called on member countries to uphold their commitments, pending necessary approvals from the Authority of Heads of State and Government.

“Our discussions have demonstrated a collective resolve to confront the challenges facing our region. We must now encourage our governments to implement the decisions we have adopted,” Tuggar said.

He reaffirmed ECOWAS’s role as a vital platform for regional integration, trade, and cross-border cooperation.

Tuggar also praised the ECOWAS Commission for its technical support during the session and thanked the Nigerian team for organizing the event.

Reflecting on his two-year tenure as Chair, Tuggar hinted that this might be his final session in the role, as a new chair is expected to be endorsed in accordance with the ECOWAS Summit agenda.

“I have enjoyed very cordial working relationships with each of you,” he said. “I hope the same cooperation will be extended to whoever among us is taking over the leadership of this council.”
