US President Donald Trump announced plans on Monday to launch a “major investigation” into Vice President Kamala Harris over alleged improper payments to celebrities during her failed 2024 presidential campaign.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that Harris violated campaign finance rules by paying for endorsements under the guise of entertainment expenses. “Candidates aren’t allowed to pay for ENDORSEMENTS, which is what Kamala did,” he wrote.
Harris’s campaign reportedly sought support from A-list celebrities, including Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey. While Winfrey defended a $1 million payment to her production company as covering legitimate hosting costs, the campaign denied rumors that Beyoncé was paid \$10 million to appear at a rally.
Campaign filings show a single $75 expenditure related to endorsements, directed to an environmental group.
Trump, who comfortably defeated Harris in the election, received minimal support from Hollywood but aligned himself with influential conservative media figures like Joe Rogan.
The president also questioned whether Bruce Springsteen was compensated for performing at a Harris rally in Georgia, calling his performance “poor” and criticizing his support for the Democratic candidate.
Springsteen, a vocal critic of Trump, recently called the U.S. government “corrupt” during a UK concert. Trump responded by labeling the rock icon “highly overrated.”
Harris took over as the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid.
