US President Donald Trump confirmed on Tuesday that a ceasefire between Iran and Israel was holding — even as he harshly criticized both nations for breaching the truce he had helped broker.
Speaking to reporters before departing for a NATO summit in The Hague, the 79-year-old president expressed frustration over what he described as mutual violations of the agreement.
“The ceasefire is in effect!” Trump announced on his Truth Social platform. “Israel is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. Nobody will be hurt.”
However, just minutes earlier, Trump had slammed both Tehran and Tel Aviv.
“They’ve been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing—do you understand that?” he said on the White House South Lawn, visibly agitated.
“Iran violated the ceasefire, but Israel did too. I’m not happy with either. Especially if Israel’s launching airstrikes this morning.”
He continued: “I’ve got to get Israel to calm down. As soon as we made the deal, they dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I’ve never seen before.”
Earlier that morning, Trump had posted a blunt warning on Truth Social:
“ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!”
The ceasefire, if it holds, marks a significant political victory for Trump following his decision to authorize US airstrikes on three suspected Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend. Both the US and Israel had accused Iran of secretly developing atomic weapons.
Trump explained that the truce would be implemented in two phases: Iran would cease all military operations starting at 04:00 GMT Tuesday, followed by Israel 12 hours later.
Israel began its offensive on June 13, targeting key Iranian sites. The US joined the campaign with overnight strikes Friday into Saturday, hitting the Fordow nuclear facility and two other locations.
Despite skepticism, Trump insisted the US mission succeeded. “I think it’s been completely demolished,” he said, dismissing critical media coverage as “fake news” and labeling two networks “scum” for questioning the outcome.
“Iran will never rebuild their nuclear facilities!” he later posted on Truth Social.
