U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that Iran and Israel have reached an agreement to implement a ceasefire, following nearly two weeks of intense conflict.
Taking to his Truth Social platform on Monday evening, Trump stated that both nations had committed to a “complete and total ceasefire.” According to him, the truce was set to begin at midnight local time, although neither Iran nor Israel had officially confirmed the agreement at the time of his announcement.
Trump wrote “congratulations to everyone! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a complete and total ceasefire.”
He explained that the ceasefire would start “in approximately six hours” after military operations by both sides were scaled down. Trump added that Iran would initiate the truce, followed by Israel, and that by the 24th hour, the 12-day war would be formally declared over.
“By the 24th hour, an official end to the 12-day war will be saluted by the world,” he wrote.
“Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end what should be called the ‘12-Day War’.”
Trump praised both countries for showing restraint and called the ceasefire a major step toward regional stability:
“This is a war that could have gone on for years and destroyed the entire Middle East—but it didn’t, and it never will.
God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and God bless the world!”
However, Iran has contested Trump’s claims. In a statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Araghchi said no formal ceasefire had been reached. He clarified that Iran’s military operations were ongoing until 4 a.m. local time.
“As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,” Araghchi said.
“However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 a.m. Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.”
