Pope Leo XIV’s offer to mediate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine at the Vatican has garnered widespread international backing, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced on Monday.
In her statement, Meloni revealed that the proposal was well-received during a recent call between U.S. President Donald Trump and several European leaders.
The discussions followed a separate conversation between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the possibility of the Holy Father hosting the peace talks at the Vatican was positively assessed by all parties involved.
