The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has scheduled a meeting with Kenya Airways following the imposition of a N3 million fine on the airline for allegedly mistreating a Nigerian passenger.

Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, disclosed this to *Sunday PUNCH*, stating that the airline requested the meeting to present its side of the incident.

“When a stakeholder asks to meet, we always listen before taking further action,” said Achimugu. He added that Kenya Airways intends to include representatives from its civil aviation authority, Nigerian consulate, and senior airline officials in the meeting.

“They want to clarify the issues, especially regarding Gloria \[Omisore],” he noted. Although no exact date has been set, the meeting is expected to take place in mid-June due to the NCAA’s tight schedule.

Achimugu also mentioned that the affected passenger, Gloria Omisore, has expressed appreciation for the NCAA’s efforts in defending her rights.

“We’re treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” he assured, promising updates after the meeting.

**Background**

In February 2025, the NCAA launched enforcement action against Kenya Airways over an incident involving Nigerian passenger Gloria Omisore. Omisore was flown from Lagos to Nairobi without a required France transit visa for her onward journey to Manchester. She endured a 17-hour layover and an additional 10-hour wait, during which she reportedly received inadequate care despite experiencing a medical condition.

The NCAA criticized Kenya Airways for issuing a misleading statement and summoned the airline’s Nigerian management to a meeting in Abuja. The airline later issued an apology and admitted the statement was inaccurate.

On May 7, 2025, the NCAA fined Kenya Airways for multiple consumer rights violations, including lack of care, poor communication, and mishandling of refunds and baggage. The airline was ordered to compensate each affected passenger, including Omisore, with 1,000 Special Drawing Rights (approximately $1,300), within seven days.
