Former U.S. President Joe Biden has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Americans for their “love and support” following his recent diagnosis with prostate cancer.

The 82-year-old Democrat revealed over the weekend that he is battling an aggressive form of the disease that has already spread to his bones. The announcement prompted a wave of support, including from current President Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, and citizens nationwide.

“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places,” Biden shared on X, alongside a photo with his wife. “Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

According to a statement from his office, Biden was diagnosed on Friday after experiencing urinary symptoms. A prostate nodule was discovered, and tests confirmed the cancer. Though the condition is aggressive, the cancer is hormone-sensitive—making it manageable with the right treatment. Biden and his family are currently exploring treatment options.

Widespread Reactions

President Trump, 78, who has often criticized Biden, said on Truth Social, “We are saddened by the news. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men in the U.S., affecting one in eight during their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. While it is often treatable when detected early, it remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men.

Hormone therapy, frequently used to treat this type of cancer, can slow its progression, though it is not a cure.
