Huawei Nigeria has unveiled a cutting-edge Innovation Centre as part of its efforts to fast-track Nigeria’s digital transformation and industrial intelligence.

The launch took place during the first-ever Huawei Day Nigeria, a three-day event themed “Accelerating Industrial Intelligence”, which also commemorates the company’s 25-year milestone in the country.

Speaking at the event, Huawei Nigeria CEO Chris Lu reiterated the company’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s digital landscape.

“Since 1999, we’ve built strong digital foundations in partnership with local stakeholders. The next chapter is about AI and digital infrastructure,” Lu said.

Lu also announced the launch of Nigeria’s first hyper-scale local cloud, enabling ultra-low latency and data localisation. “AI isn’t the future—it’s now. Developing industrial intelligence requires AI-ready infrastructure, from robust connectivity to modern data centres,” he added.

The Innovation Centre will serve as a collaborative space for government agencies, businesses, and tech professionals to explore emerging technologies and co-develop solutions across sectors including finance, education, and energy.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, praised the initiative, calling it a vital step in Nigeria’s tech evolution. “This centre positions Nigeria not just as a technology user but a co-creator of innovation,” he said.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, described Huawei as an “indispensable partner” in Nigeria’s ICT growth. He highlighted the importance of the local cloud infrastructure in addressing the country’s data sovereignty concerns.

Dr. Peter Zhou, President of Huawei’s Data Storage Product Line, showcased the company’s AI infrastructure, noting its impact across industries—from fintech to autonomous vehicles.

“Huawei’s AI-ready systems, including intelligent computing and the AI Data Lake, are helping solve complex challenges in real time,” Zhou said.
