A Colombian presidential candidate, Miguel Uribe, has undergone surgery after being critically injured in a shooting at a campaign rally in Bogotá. According to the city’s mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, Uribe was flown to a hospital where he successfully underwent his first surgical procedure.
“He has overcome the initial surgery and is now in the critical hours of recovery,” Mayor Galán told the media early Sunday.
Uribe, a right-wing senator, was shot during a public event on Saturday. Authorities have detained a 15-year-old suspect believed to be behind the attack.
