Indian immigration authorities have arrested a Nigerian woman in Kondhwa, Pune, for remaining in the country after her visa had expired.
According to The Indian Express, the arrest was carried out by the Foreigners Registration Office of the Pune City Police following a tip-off from residents in the neighborhood. The woman was found living in a rented apartment without valid immigration documents.
During the investigation, police questioned both the property owner and the real estate agent who arranged the rental. Authorities have registered a case against them for failing to report her undocumented stay, as required by Indian law.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde stated that the Nigerian national’s visa had expired and that she reached a private agreement with the landlord and agent to continue residing in the apartment unlawfully.
