The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Monday through Wednesday.

In its three-day weather outlook released Sunday in Abuja, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms on Monday across parts of Taraba, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Jigawa, and Kano. Afternoon and evening rains are expected in Taraba, Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Kebbi, and Zamfara.

The North-Central region—including the FCT, Niger, and Nasarawa—is expected to see morning rain, with later showers likely over Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Kwara, and surrounding areas.

Southern states like Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom may see morning rain, followed by widespread showers across the southwest and southeast later in the day.

Tuesday’s Forecast
NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms across northern states such as Kano, Zamfara, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, and Taraba. Rains will persist into the afternoon in Taraba, Kebbi, Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Kaduna, and Bauchi.

In North-Central, rain is expected in the morning in the FCT, Niger, and Nasarawa, with evening thunderstorms likely in Kogi, Kwara, and Plateau.

The South will again experience morning and evening rains across most states, including Lagos, Ekiti, Edo, Enugu, Imo, and Bayelsa.

Wednesday’s Outlook
The forecast includes morning thunderstorms in Zamfara, Adamawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Taraba, extending into the afternoon in much of the North.

Thunderstorms are also expected in the FCT, Nasarawa, Niger, and Benue in the morning, with further rainfall later in the day across Kwara and Kogi.

Southern states are likely to receive both morning and evening rains, with NiMet warning that strong winds may precede storms.

Public Advisory
NiMet advised residents to secure loose items, avoid driving during heavy downpours, and disconnect electrical appliances during storms. It also urged airline operators to obtain location-specific weather updates for flight planning.
