The Kwale Gas Gathering (KGG) Hub in Delta State, Nigeria, has been awarded the Regional Gas Award for Africa by the International Gas Union at the prestigious World Gas Conference held in Beijing, China.

The KGG Hub was recognised for its innovative approach to ending gas flaring at oil production sites within the OML 56 cluster in Delta State. The facility offers a commercial solution to harness previously flared gas, thereby reducing environmental pollution and increasing economic value.

In a statement made available to PUNCH, Mr. Emeka Ene, CEO of Nigerian gas-processing firm Xenergi Limited, accepted the award on behalf of the project team. The award-winning submission was developed by a multidisciplinary team comprising Emeka Ene, Debo Fagbami, Kingsley Idedevbo, James Ogunleye, and Sahhed Hammed.

Speaking at the event, Ene praised the team’s technical excellence and acknowledged the support of the Nigerian government and petroleum industry regulators. He highlighted the enabling environment that has allowed indigenous firms to deliver world-class solutions to the sector’s operational challenges.

“This recognition validates the capacity of Nigerian companies to offer scalable solutions to global energy issues,” Ene said.

The KGG facility, with a processing capacity of 300 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), serves as an open-access infrastructure for independent operators in the OML 56 area. It enables them to monetize natural gas through a system that includes gathering, compression, injection, and metering.

Beyond eliminating routine gas flaring, the KGG Hub contributes significantly to Nigeria’s domestic gas supply, promotes economic growth, improves the profitability of upstream players, and supports environmental sustainability. The hub is integrated with the 48-inch OB-3 gas trunk line, managed by the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.).
