At least six people were killed and several others injured in Israeli airstrikes early Sunday across northern and central Gaza, according to local rescue teams.
Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal reported that five individuals lost their lives when a residential building was struck in Jabalia, located in northern Gaza. Another person was killed in a drone strike targeting tents housing displaced civilians near Nuseirat in central Gaza.
The Israeli military has intensified operations in the enclave, describing the escalation as a renewed effort to dismantle Hamas. On Saturday, the military confirmed launching strikes on over 100 targets within 24 hours.
Gaza’s health ministry stated that since the March 18 collapse of a ceasefire, at least 3,747 people have died, bringing the total death toll in the conflict to 53,901—predominantly civilians.
Background
The ongoing war was triggered by a Hamas-led attack on Israel in October 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people, mostly civilians. Militants also took 251 hostages; 57 remain in Gaza, including 34 whom the Israeli military says are confirmed dead.
