John Odunsi, father of British-Nigerian nursing student Elizabeth Odunsi, who was fatally stabbed in her Houston, Texas apartment, has announced plans to pursue legal action against U.S. police and his daughter’s landlord.
Elizabeth, also known as Tamilore, was killed on April 26, just days before her graduation from Texas Woman’s University. Houston police later found her roommate, Chester Grant, with stab wounds at the scene. He was hospitalized in critical condition and subsequently arrested on May 2 for her murder. Grant, 40, is currently held at Harris County Jail with a bond set at \$500,000.
Odunsi, speaking from East London, criticized the police for failing to identify Grant’s criminal history during earlier visits to his daughter’s residence. He also questioned the landlord’s vetting process.
“If there are failings, we will take legal action,” he said. “The landlord should’ve done the necessary checks. Unfortunately, nothing will bring back my lovely daughter.”
Elizabeth’s sister, Georgina, accepted her graduation certificate posthumously on her behalf.
