Namibia’s President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has dismissed Agriculture Minister Mac-Albert Hengari, who is under investigation for allegedly raping a minor.
According to a statement released by the presidency on Sunday, Hengari’s dismissal took effect on April 23, the date he was expected to resign.
Namibian media reports that Hengari may also face charges of abduction and procuring an abortion—offences that carry serious legal consequences in the conservative nation.
The police have confirmed the ongoing investigation.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah, who took office in March 2025 as Namibia’s first female head of state, is a long-time member of the ruling SWAPO party, which has led since independence in 1990.
