Ukraine has announced that a planned prisoner exchange with Russia will commence next week, following earlier accusations from both countries of attempts to obstruct the process.
“The start of repatriation activities based on the results of negotiations in Istanbul is scheduled for next week,” said Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, in a social media statement on Sunday.
On June 2, both nations agreed to a new round of prisoner-of-war exchanges and also committed to recovering the bodies of fallen soldiers.
This comes amid ongoing hostilities, with recent Russian strikes reportedly killing five people in Ukraine.
