Air Peace has strongly condemned what it described as violent and disruptive conduct by a “prominent Nigerian politician” who missed a scheduled flight and subsequently caused a major disturbance at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport.

In a statement released by spokesperson Osifo-Whiskey Efe, the airline explained that the incident occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday at Terminal 1 (Zulu Hall).

The unnamed politician allegedly arrived late for Flight P47120, which was scheduled to depart for Abuja at 6:30 a.m. According to Air Peace, the boarding gate had already closed in accordance with standard aviation protocols and the airline’s strict on-time departure policy.

Upon realizing he had missed the flight, the politician allegedly became aggressive—physically assaulting airline personnel and sealing off the terminal’s main entrance. He then reportedly took control of the access gate, blocking other passengers from entering and causing widespread disruption.

“This unacceptable behavior led to operational delays and significant inconvenience to staff and passengers alike,” the statement read.

Air Peace said it swiftly activated emergency contingency plans, rerouting passengers through an alternate terminal to minimize the impact and preserve travel schedules.

“We are appalled by this display of aggression and total disregard for aviation regulations,” the airline said. “No individual, regardless of their status, is entitled to obstruct operations or endanger the safety and comfort of others.”

The airline reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward violence, harassment, or abuse targeting its employees or customers, adding that the safety and well-being of its staff and passengers remain a top priority.

“We call on all travelers to adhere strictly to flight schedules and cooperate with airline personnel at all times,” the statement concluded. “Our mission remains to provide safe, timely, and reliable air travel while upholding integrity, discipline, and due process.”
