President Tinubu Appoints New Governing Council Members For 36 Federal Institutions

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of additional members to the governing councils of various federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.

The announcement was contained in a statement released on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The new appointees span 36 federal institutions nationwide, each selected to represent different states and regions in a bid to reflect the federal character of governance.

According to the statement, all appointments are to take immediate effect.

The appointments are with immediate effect, the presidency confirmed.

This follows President Tinubu’s earlier announcement of new governing council members for the University of Abuja, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, which was made public on Tuesday.

According to Mr Onanuga, the newly appointed members for the University of Abuja are:

Prof. Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan (South-South)

Dr Adedeji Adefuye (South-West)

Prof. Sarki Abba Abdulkadir (North-West)

Prof. Aminu Mohammed Dukku (North-East)

For UNN, the appointees include:

Ogbonna Eugene Odo (South-East)

Muhammad Inuwa Tahir (North-West)

At NAU, Awka, the new council members are:

Dr Nkem Okeke (South-East)

Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala (South-East)

Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa (North-West)

Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade (South-West)

These appointments come just hours after President Tinubu also named new governing council members for the University of Abuja, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka. The University of Abuja council was dissolved in February, with the Vice-Chancellor, Aisha Maikudi, removed amid controversy over her eligibility.

The governing council members for the University of Abuja are Prof. Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan (South-South), Dr Adedeji Adefuye (South-West), Prof. Sarki Abba Abdulkadir (North-West), and Prof. Aminu Mohammed Dukku (North-East).

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, will now have Ogbonna Eugene Odo (South-East) and Muhammad Inuwa Tahir (North-West) on its governing council. For Nnamdi Azikiwe University, the appointees are Dr Nkem Okeke, Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala (both from the South-East), Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa (North-West), and Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade (South-West).
