The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the country from Sunday, June 8 to Tuesday, June 11, 2025.
In its weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, NiMet predicted wet conditions across the North, North-Central, and Southern regions.
Sunday’s Forecast
Sunday is expected to begin with cloudy skies nationwide, shifting to thunderstorms and rainfall by afternoon and evening in:
- Northern states: Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, and Bauchi.
- North-Central states: FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau.
- Southern states: Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Edo, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa.
Monday’s Forecast
- Morning thunderstorms are expected in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Bauchi.
- Further thunderstorm activity will spread across FCT, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Benue.
- Southern states including Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom will experience morning rains, with continued rainfall possible into the evening.
Tuesday’s Forecast
- Isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains will affect Zamfara and Kaduna in the morning, with similar patterns continuing across other regions.
Safety Advisory
NiMet urged the public to remain cautious and take preventive measures:
- Disconnect electrical appliances during storms.
- Avoid sheltering under tall trees.
- Refrain from driving during heavy rainfall.
- Secure outdoor items vulnerable to strong winds.
Airline operators are also advised to consult updated, airport-specific forecasts to plan and avoid delays.
